Background

My teaching and research efforts are driven by a curiosity about the ways that nature and society interact. I see that hazards provide an arena to learn lessons about this interaction on a human time scale and focus not only on learning the lessons but in applying those lessons to making communities more resilient to disruption. This focus on hazards and disasters allows me to use place as a theme to integrate physical and human processes and relies on the combination of tools including surveys, GIS and Remote Sensing techniques.
